MANNA MACHINE IV
MANNA MACHINE IV, 2009
algae (Chlorella vulgaris), glass, pump, plastic tubes, dimensions variable
exhibition view PLANET PARADIES, Galerie Strickner, Vienna 2009

The sculptures MANNA MACHINE are photobioreactors in which algae (Chlorella vulgaris) grow. The tubes and hoses form a drawing in space and are used for photosynthesis, similar to the leaves of a plant. The resulting biomass is filtered, dried and processed into pigment. Fixed in oil or resin, the algae pigment becomes the painting material for the painting series HARVEST.
Additionally fermented and distilled, the algae are processed into the spirit TONO BUNGAY.
